Smart Spray's Journey

After selling the lawn care company he started as a Junior High student, Toby completed his Electrical / Computer Engineering degree at the University of Iowa in 2022 and began working at Raytheon. At night and on weekends, he began experimenting with ideas for tracking lawn care chemical usage and location. He wanted to solve a pressing issue he faced as a lawn care company owner: technicians not applying chemicals correctly! Toby knew his technology could save lawn care companies a lot of money by tracking chemical application volumes, times, and locations.

In early 2024, Toby and his team launched Smart Spray. In beta testing with a few companies across the country, they proved the technology and gathered crucial feedback for improvements. By Fall 2024, Smart Spray opened to the public. Since the launch, Smart Spray has innovated and built additional tools to make life easier and more efficient for lawn care and snow removal companies across the USA and Canada. What started as a Junior High side hustle has become a hardware and software business that is transforming the outdoor services industry.
